*Functions: The Nutrition Food Service Director ensures the smooth and efficient operation of* the school kitchens/cafeteria and is responsible for the production of nutritious, appetizing meals for students and staff, while meeting all governmental and district regulations.
The School Nutrition Food Service Director must also ensure the district is maximizing its resources and minimizing production costs.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.
Supervises and participates in the preparation and service of meals in large quantities, and all other programs within the Nutrition Food Service Department.
2.
Provides training to Nutrition Food Service staff in the areas of food preparation and sanitation.
3.
Performs duties with an awareness of Federal, State, and District policies.
4.
Trains staff in all aspects of computer technology at all kitchen locations.
5.
Delegates duties to ensure maximum efficiency for all kitchen staff.
6.
Ensures food handling and serving is performed by individuals who have completed and approved food safety training.
7.
Plans menus to conform with federal USDA requirements to provide nutritious meals while prioritizing from scratch cooking, maximizing inventory and minimizing costs.
8.
Develops and recommends food price schedules.
9.
Oversees weekly, monthly, and quarterly ordering and inventorying of all food and supplies as needed to ensure District resources are maximized.
10.
Completes kitchen inventory, (food, supplies, and equipment) to be completed once each year and sent to the Business Manager.
11.
Receives and dates food shipments to enable a first in-first out use of food.
12.
Updates and maintains a School Food Safety HACCP plan and standardized recipes per USDA standards.
13.
Updates and maintains SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) for the Nutrition Food Service Department.
14.
Develops a complete guide detailing the process of protocol and procedures to ensure efficient and effective transfer of duties to a substitute cook or organization which is readily available in the kitchen.
15.
Maintains daily production records in accordance with WDE standards.
16.
Maintains high standards of cleanliness and safety in the kitchen, food storage areas, and cafeteria and oversees and participates in the cleaning and sanitizing on a daily basis.
17.
Ensures proper storage of all food in accordance with USDA requirements on a daily basis and before all school breaks.
18.
Ensures that all equipment in the kitchens are safe, working condition and immediately notifies the maintenance online program when repairs cannot be performed by the kitchen staff.
19.
Communicates Nutrition Food Service program needs to the Business Manager on as needed basis in regard to additional equipment or staff changes.
20.
Obtains grant funding for the Nutrition Food Service Program when available and as needed.
21.
Develops and conducts orientations, training, and instruction seminars for personnel in the nutrition service operations.
Evaluations of food service staff and the operation of the food warehouse facility and delivery routes.
22.
Stays current on menu planning, software, and/or school nutrition.
23.
Participates in organizing The School Wellness Committee for Students and information regarding food safety, health and nutrition for children.
24.
Assists the Business Manager in analyzing the Nutrition Food Service program financial data and helps ensure the fiscal stability of the Nutrition Food Service program.
25.
Plans work schedules for staff including the submission of leave requests and approving time in the electronic programs.
26.
Assures two inspections by the County Health Department each year as required by WDE School Nutrition Programs.
Kitchen and food storage area inspections should be scheduled during food preparation times when possible.
27.
Oversees all duties of the Food Service Administrative Assistant.
28.
Develops, monitors, and supervises the Free and Reduce Program in accordance with current policies and regulations as required by USDA and WDE programs as well as maintains all records.
29.
Maintains effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
30.
Performs essential functions independently with minimal supervision.
31.
Effectively prioritizes time and responsibilities.
32.
Maintains confidentiality of employment and student matters.
33.
Demonstrates an understanding, patient, warm, positive, and receptive attitude towards children and staff.
34.
Strong customer service skills.
