Assists in the care of the surgical patient by performing the scrubbing role of handling instruments, equipment and supplies.
The Surgical Technologist has an understanding of the procedure being performed, anticipates the needs of the surgeon, maintains a sterile field and is responsible pre- and post-operatively for technical components of surgery.
Essential Job Functions • Anticipates, plans for and responds to the needs of the surgeon and other members of the team by constantly monitoring the sterile field.
• Demonstrates proper handling of instruments and equipment.
• Identifies potential intraoperative complications and responds appropriately to identified needs.
• Assists team in maintaining adequate inventory of equipment, supplies and instruments.
• Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve quality of patient care.
• Identifies needs and sets goals for own personal growth and development.
Meets all system and departmental educational requirements.
• Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.
Minimum Qualifications Education • Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent Certifications and/or Licenses • Certification by the Liaison Council for the Surgical Technologist (LCC-ST), preferred • BLS certification Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered Billings Clinic is Montana’s largest health system serving Montana, Wyoming and the western Dakotas.
