74 The Medical Dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology team who has knowledge of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology with special expertise in radiation therapy treatment planning.
Dosimetrists are cognizant of procedures commonly used in brachytherapy/radiation therapy and has the education and expertise necessary to generate radiation dose distributions and dose calculations under the direction of the Medical Physicist and Radiation Oncologist.
Essential Job Functions • Design treatment plans with a treatment planning system that will deliver a prescribed radiation dose according to the Radiation Oncologist's prescription.
• Treatment plans design utilizing methods to deliver conformal 3-D treatments, IMRT, VMAT and SBRT deliveries.
• Identify and contour normal and dose-limiting structures by utilizing images from one or more data sets.
Assumes proficiency in image registration with various image data sets to include CT, MRI and PET.
• Create and transfer reference images and localization markers for portal verification and treatment delivery to include DRRs, CBCTs and other IGRT methods, as specified.
• Treatment Planning, Record/Verify and other Software Systems: • Varian Site - Use of Eclipse and Aria • Elekta Satellite site – Use of Mosaiq and RayStation • Rad Formation’s ClearCheck • PACS • Cerner • Assist in cross coverage of outreach/satellite sites.
• Documents all pertinent information in the patient’s record and verify the accuracy of all calculations using a system established by the Medical Physicist.
• Assists the radiation therapists with the implementation of the treatment plan and other treatment variables.
• As directed by the Medical Physicist, provides support in radiation protection.
• Familiarity with all equipment in the dosimetry work areas.
• Participates in clinical research for the development and implementation of new techniques.
• Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements.
• Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.
• Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
Minimum Qualifications Education • Graduate of a JRCERT (Joint Review Committee in Radiological Technology) medical dosimetry program OR a Registered • Radiation Therapy Technologist with completion of two (2) or more years on-the-job training in medical dosimetry under the supervision of Certified Medical Dosimetrist or Medical Physicist Experience • Five (5) years’ experience in radiation oncology with progressive responsibilities preferred Certifications and Licenses • Current certification by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board,(MDCB) At hire • CPR Certification as a Healthcare Provider At hire • Board eligible as defined by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB)within 12 months of employment Billings Clinic is Montana’s largest health system serving Montana, Wyoming and the western Dakotas.
