*POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT: * (in 1 or 2 sentences, describe why the job exists) In this position, the Medical Assistant assists primary care providers in the delivery of professional medical care, within the scope of their education and training, under the supervision of physicians, licensed staff personnel or supervisory staff.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:* 1.
Collects patient information and chief complaint.
Obtains and records patient’s vital signs.
Reports findings to practitioner and records on appropriate documentation forms in a timely manner.

Works with healthcare team to assure smooth and efficient patient flow and clinical operation.
Problem solves obstacles to processes and notifies manager and patients of wait time.
* Pulls and reviews patient chart prior to visit to ensure completeness.
4.
Escorts patients to the exam room and prepares them for an exam.
Assists patients in wheelchairs or those needing extra assistance with transfers to and from exam tables, procedure tables, and scales.
5.
Prepares patients for examination, including draping, shaving, and disinfecting treatment sites.
6.
Arranges examining-room instruments and equipment.
* Provides patient information and instructions, based on information received from provider.
* Obtains specimens by non-invasive techniques, such as wound cultures.
* Performs filing and bookkeeping.
* Calls in prescription orders or refills to the pharmacy only as ordered and approved by physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.
* Confirms and clarifies written orders prior to implementation of delegated tasks.
* Maintains and uses principles of aseptic techniques and infection control when performing clinical duties and tasks.
* Under clinical supervision, assists practitioner in identified patient procedures/treatments/examinations, in a safe, effective, and efficient manner, according to Clinical Practice Policy and Procedures.
* Appropriately obtains and manages specimens, including: labeling, form completion, transport to lab, and log maintenance.
* Provides appropriate patient education, health information materials and community resource lists as directed, and maintains educational supplies * Maintains supply room and orders supplies, as needed.
Orders, stocks, and maintains exam rooms and clinic areas with standard levels of supplies, medications, linens, forms and equipment.
Recognizes patient care trends affecting unit supplies and notifies clinic manager.
* Operates clinical equipment according to equipment procedures, including safety and quality control checks.
Checks clinic area and rooms for malfunctioning equipment and general maintenance problems on a regular basis.
Reports findings to appropriate person or through Facility Dude.
* Ensures that soiled linen, needle containers and potentially infectious waste are appropriately disposed and removed from the clinic and exam area, according to infection control guidelines.
* Identifies self-learning needs related to job description and seeks out appropriate resources to meet learning needs.
* Participates in staff meetings by providing constructive input and facilitating problem-solving.
* Identifies opportunities for performance improvement, provides input for the development of solutions.

The employee must also demonstrate the competencies for the position and adhere to policies and procedures for their department.

*Education, Experience and Licensure/Certification Requirements: * Requirements are representative of the minimum level of knowledge, skills and/or abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
1.
A high school diploma or GED 2.
One (1) year of experience in a physician practice, clinic, or hospital setting; enroll into a Medical Assistant training program within the first 6 months of hire 3.
Montana State CNA certification required 4.
Strong analytical, oral, written communication skills 5.
Exceptional interpersonal skills 6.
Excellent organizational skills 7.
Detail oriented 8.
Ability to cope with stressful situations 9.
CPR certification preferred 10.
