Health Promotion Division: The Health Promotion Division of RiverStone Health exists to improve the life, health, and safety of Yellowstone County residents at the population level.
Services include the prevention of poor health outcomes and health behaviors through assessment, rural school nursing, health education, community partnerships, policy, systems, and environmental strategies.
Job Summary: The Prevention Health Specialist promotes health within Yellowstone County by assisting individuals to adopt healthy behaviors.
This position is responsible for work focused on prevention, awareness, and education at the population level.
Areas of work include tobacco prevention, suicide prevention, and generalized chronic disease prevention.
The work is performed with integrity and innovation to ensure a high level of customer service delivery.
Essential Functions/Major Duties and Responsibilities: A.
Population Health Specialist Responsibilities 95% Designs, implements, and evaluates prevention health campaign strategies and education programs.
Assists in developing work plans and budgets.
Manages time sensitive projects and meet deadlines in an accurate manner.
Conducts regular oral and written communication about health promotion goals, facts, policy advocacy and coalition activities.
Participates in various committees and boards related to program activities and responsibilities; represent the agency and provide accurate information regarding prevention information and resources.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other agency, organization and tribal entity representatives.
Coordinates prevention health program activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations.
Assists with RiverStone Health activities associated with generalized health promotion.
Demonstrates strong organizational and planning skills—functions as a self-starter.
Performs effective public speaking to groups of varied interests and backgrounds; develops and delivers informative and persuasive presentations.
Assists in the preparation of grant proposals.
Produces, maintains and submits regular statistics and program reports using a web-based program in accordance with grant and/or program reporting requirements.
Develops and maintains partnerships with a diverse mix of local organizations, groups, businesses, health providers, and individuals from all the geographic communities within the county.
Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner.
Participates in emergency preparedness trainings, exercises and response activities.
Attends meetings, webinars, conferences, workshops and training sessions to become and remain current on principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas.
Participates in program quality improvement projects.
Coordinate the day-to-day deliverables as outlined in the Chronic Disease Prevention project work plan in Yellowstone County, including public speaking, advocating for smoke free polices, creating written education about the harms of tobacco products, and creating smoke free events.
Become a facilitator for INDEPTH, an alternative to suspension for students caught with tobacco products in Yellowstone County.
Coordinate the Communities that Care grant for Yellowstone County which includes meeting facilitation, partnership building, and overseeing prevention initiatives.
Collaborate with team members on suicide prevention activities including but not limited to: increasing safe storage of firearms, educating the public about stigma of suicide, increasing community connection through partnership with local and state organizations, and enhance positive project reach in Yellowstone County.
Develop and maintain partnerships with a diverse mix of local and state organizations and individuals to enhance positive project reach and impact in Yellowstone County Collaborate with team members in the evaluation of program and activities.

Education and Experience: Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in health education, nonprofit services, health services, public education or other related fields.
Any combination of experience and training which provide the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Highschool Diploma or GED Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors’ Degree in health promotion, public health, healthcare administration, or related Experience working with underserved population Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Required to obtain on the job training in ICS 100, 200, 700, 300 and 400.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Computer literacy, in Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to understand and adhere to required administrative policies and procedures.
Thorough knowledge of modern office procedures, practices, and equipment.
