Position Purpose Oversees the operational footprint of the Hydraulic and Hydrology Workgroup across the KLJ footprint.
Responsible for execution of day-to-day operations of the staff within the workgroup.
Supervises staff to meet established objectives of KLJ.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical expertise with planning, modeling, report and plan production, and QC/QA protocols on hydraulic projects.
The Group Leader will provide engineering design and oversight in the successful delivery of hydraulic projects of various sizes and complexities.
Performance Expectations: Business/Client Development Work closely with business leaders to coordinate sales efforts and cross-sell services across KLJ’s footprint.
Plan, organize, coordinate, prioritize, and monitor client relations as it relates to business development in the Hydraulics Group.
Monitor market trends and identify potential opportunities for company growth.
Collaborate with Client Service Managers in lead identification, win strategies, proposal development, interviews, fee development, and negotiations.
Develop and maintain client, stakeholder, and teaming partner relationships.
Participate in ongoing strategic positioning for major projects.
Proposals Supports and/or participates in proposal interviews and scope/fee negotiations to the extent required.
Leads efforts in developing project scope, schedule, and fee during proposal preparation phase.
Works with Operations Managers to identify qualified staff, form project teams, and assign responsibilities.
Project Manager / Engineering As appropriate, manages the delivery of projects primarily involving hydraulics and hydrology, including activities related to project scope, schedule, cost/budget, quality, communications, resources, procurement, and risk elements to optimize exceptional customer experience, quality, and fiscal responsibility.
Serve as a client manager, project manager, and mentor to staff.
Serve as technical resource and advisor for a team of engineers and designers.
Coordinate with technicians to ensure timely and accurate document and drawing preparation.
Meets with customer’s management team and stakeholders as necessary during the term of a project to resolve issues and obtain approvals.
Leads the project delivery team to ensure proper delivery of services, work product quality, project communications, customer satisfaction, and profitable execution of the project.
Conforms with KLJ project delivery, safety standards, and driving the KLJ vision and brand.
Essential Functions Responsible for the health of the hydraulic workgroup by ensuring adequate staffing and the training needs within the workgroup and the development and availability of the discipline-specific QC plans, internal policies, and standards knowledge share.
Supervises, manages, and leads members in the workgroup by setting clear expectations, setting quality controls and builds team morale.
Supports technical and business development.
Accountable for the objectives established for attracting, retaining, and developing talent.
Assigns indirect work and reviews performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of members.
Talent Management accountabilities include hiring, promotions, terminations, performance reviews, training, succession planning and leadership development.
Makes direct contribution to projects on a significant amount of time.
Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or closely related discipline.
10+ years of relevant post education experience in an engineering-related environment.
Successful experience and track record of developing and selling professional services preferred.
Proficient with developing and sustaining strong professional relationships over an extended period of time by delivering value to clients, actively listening, and following through on commitments.
Advanced ability to articulate company’s services in a manner that connects with clients and provides value to them.
Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
Strong communication and emotional intelligence skills to interact with clients effectively, persuasively, and tactfully.
Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-and senior-level teams and project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline specific and project management software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
Experience with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Hours and Travel This position requires the individual work 40+ hours per week with 80% of the time spent in the office and 20% out of the office.
